Ian Kevin Curtis (15 July 1956 – 18 May 1980) was an English singer-songwriter and musician. He was the lead singer and lyricist of the post-punk band Joy Division and recorded two albums with the group: Unknown Pleasures (1979) and Closer (1980). Curtis was known for his bass-baritone voice, dance style, and songwriting typically filled with imagery of desolation, emptiness, and alienation.

It has taken me all these years to finally discover the band via a strange route. One of my favorite bands is Neurosis, and I learned that they often play “Day of the Lords” live.

Unknown Pleasures is a classic even if the still learning band were overwhelmed by Hannent’s famous production. Closer is incredible and heartbreaking, but doesn’t include the classic singles. Substance has the classic non album singles along with rarities.

Jun 14, 2019 · Quick question to all hc collectors regarding this release:since i snagged the first UK UP cassette release still sealed ,i have an urge to keep new buys as such.the 40th ann. i would also like to keep as such but i am not sure to do so as it’s tight fit celophane could damage its content over the years.i’ld be thankful for any advice to “what to do?”..
